Torque testing beauty product closures

Mecmesin’s Tornado testers are very easy to use. Even people who had no experience in this area found them simple to operate. We achieved very reliable  results and found that the Tornadoes were easily adapted to test many different bottles and pots. The machines produced printed paper results or a digital file and we found this was a very easy way of keeping opening torque records. They are a very useful instrument for packaging.

Specification

Korres SA is an award-winning manufacturer of beauty products, based in Greece and sells its products at home and abroad. It makes a wide range of skin, hair-care, make-up and sun-care products, as well as herbal preparations.

Quality control managers at Korres needed to replace their outdated torque testing system with an up-to-date digital torque testing system to guarantee production quality and to ensure their products remained sealed.

The new testing system had to be able to test tamper-evident closures for slip torque and bridge torque on a wide range of plastic and glass bottles and pots.

The new system had to have clear intuitive controls, with easy-to-read pass/fail parameters and an on-board memory to keep statistical results. It also had to be waterproof for testing on the production floor.

Solution

Mecmesin supplied the company, with two Tornado 10N.m torque testers with intuitive user interface and versatile fixturing for the production line and for Quality Control.

To test tamper-evident closures, containers are placed between four adjustable pegs on a versatile mounting table which can accommodate a variety of forms and catch any spills on an integrated drip tray.

The machine is then switched on using a simple keypad and the container is rotated anti-clockwise. Tolerance bands for acceptable torque measurements can be pre-defined and pass/fail parameters established.

LED indications or an audible alarm (or both) can clearly identify samples that do not conform to exact requirements.

Korres, who received training and technical instructions as part of the after-sales support offered by Mecmesin distributors, said they chose this torque testing system because it’s reliable and offers value for money.
